چکیده

The study of silica polymorphs in impactites is important for determining the pressure and temperature impact rock formation. Silica modifications melt rocks Janisjärvi structure (Karelia, Russia) are presented by tridymite, cristobalite, quartz, trace stishovite coesite. were characterized studied scanning electron microscopy (SEM), probe microanalysis (EPMA), Raman cathodoluminescent spectroscopy. Investigations carried out order to clarify formation mechanisms search signs transition certain structural others. For first time, a description tridymite with ballen-like texture from given. A sequence modification textural transformation after event suggested. We conclude that 40 GPa more than 900 °C achieved structure.

Silica Dust, Crystalline, in the Form of Quartz or Cristobalite

Silica, or silicon dioxide (SiO2), is a group IV metal oxide, which naturally occurs in both crystalline and amorphous forms (i.e. polymorphic; NTP, 2005). The various forms of crystalline silica are: α-quartz, β-quartz, α-tridymite, β-tridymite, α-cristobalite, β-cristobalite, keatite, coesite, stishovite, and moganite (NIOSH, 2002). The most abundant form of silica is α-quartz, and the term q...

Thermodynamics of polymorphic transformations in silica. Thermal properties from 5 to 1070°K and pressure-temperature stability fields for coesite and stishovite *

Cryogenic heat-capacity measurements on coesite and stishovite provide thermodynamic properties from 5 to 350°K. The heat capacities (C,), entropies (SO), and Gibbs energy functions [-(Go H”,)/T] are 10.85, 9.65, 4.124, and 10.27, 6.64, 2.362 at 298015°K for coesite and stishovite, respectively, in Cal/( mole “K). Enthalpies of transition for phase changes were determined by solution calorimetr...

Discovery of stishovite in Apollo 15299 sample

High-pressure polymorphs recovered in terrestrial craters are evidence of meteoroid impact events on the Earth’s surface. Despite countless impact craters on the Moon, high-pressure polymorphs have not been reported to date in returned Apollo samples. On the other hand, recent studies report that the high-pressure polymorphs of silica, coesite and stishovite occur in shocked lunar meteorites. W...

Elastic Properties of Silica Polymorphs – a Review

The elastic properties of silica phases are reviewed. Available monocrystal data for crystalline SiO2 polymorphs (low-quartz, high-quartz, low-cristobalite, high-cristobalite, stishovite) are collected from the literature, and effective elastic constants (Young’s moduli, shear moduli, bulk moduli and Poisson ratios) are calculated from these using Voigt-Reuss-Hill averaging. Both experimental d...
